Art in the Park

Helen Nolan Park

108Ave and 124 Street Edmonton

Join me and 5 other local artists to celebrate Alberta's Month of the Artist. Our little art market will be set up to allow plenty of room for physical distancing and Alberta Health directives will be followed.

This will be my first Art Market of 2020 and I am thrilled to be able to share my work with you.

Watercolour on Yupo Class

Wednesdays 6 - 9pm, Oct 7 - 28

Learn, refresh and expand your knowledge of painting with watercolours on yupo paper. This will be a very hands on course with you doing lots of painting during our time together. We will explore how pigments mix and how to create clean, crisp colours. We will focus on contrasts throughout the 4 weeks: contrasts of colour, shape, line and edges, and values that can transform any scene into a beautiful painting. Our subject matter will be primarily landscape painting with 1 class dedicated to a floral composition. Each lesson will build upon the skills we have learned from the previous week and in the final week I will include time for a critique for anyone interested, and show you how to mount your finished paintings onto a wood panel.

Christmas Craft Fair

November 20 to 22

Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds

As of September 20, 2020 this event is still a go. Extra measures and precautions are being taken to make this a safe event for customers and vendors.

I will post more details as they become available.

Exploring Yupo

Full day workshop at Leduc Art Club

Tips and trick to get started painting watercolour on Yupo - a uniquely smooth paper.   We will learn how the paints move and react to each other and the paper and will practice using a reductive technique and layering to add excitement to our paintings.  The morning will be spent “playing” with the Yupo and loosening up and in the afternoon, I invite participants to bring a photograph they would like to paint from.   I will give individual help with composition and the best way to approach the afternoon piece.   I will also come around and help students trouble shoot and work out any tricky situations. At the end of the class I will demonstrate how to mount a finished painting onto a birch panel and finish with a UV Varnish for protection, instead of the traditional way of framing under glass.

Edmonton folks can find my work for sale at the following venues:

Tix on the Square: 9930 102 Avenue (Southwest corner of Churchill Square)
